Massachusetts Out
Our time in Massachusetts is quickly ending. We have one more day until we hit the road for the next location. It has been a crazy 3 months of learning but for the most part I think we have enjoyed it.
A friend said you know you are doing something right when everything goes wrong. The devil attacks when it's right.
I hold on to that, cause the first 2 months were crazy and many times made us want to pack up and say that was fun.
Between the caos with the house, the car, COVID, the truck, licensing, and ear issues I think we made it out of that valley finally. It's only up from here.
Isaac's contract was different than ones he has done thus far. The hospital is huge. He says there are at least 1000 beds and it is the main hub for all of Massachusetts. He rarely got out on time and rarely had a break so his days off were spent recharging.
We have loved this little town though. Sturbridge is a perfect small town. Farmers markets and Thursday Night concerts in the square.A small library to meet your needs and an even smaller post office. Not a Mexican restaurant in sight but a never ending supply of Dunkins. We found the perfect coffee shop that also has a great iced tea and even better food for a quick breakfast or pick me up. And no, it's not Dunkin.
I enjoyed outings with family I haven't seen in ages, and since we will be state neighbors hopefully we can see more of them. They took us into Amhurst and to the Eric Carle Museum and on a hike, and tona dairy farm to see the cows that made the yummy ice cream. It was our first ventures out in Massachusetts, and we loved every minute.
We explored Sturbridge and went to the Old Historic Village. A huge 1800's working historical village. Properties brought in from all the New England States, all in tact, to complete the village. A school house, a general store, a shoe makers shop, a black Smith, a potter, a butcher, and a big ol pig who will be used in a few weeks to help.supply the smoker.
We were able to explore Boston a few times on different occasions. I was really looking forward to the 4th of July in Boston but was disappointed with all the rain that we couldn't explore more than we wanted. We did manage to see the U.S.S. Constitution Museum and eat some expensive pizza that day, so it wasn't a complete bust. Isaac got to venture into.Boston a second time, this time taking their version of Marta to see the Braves vs. Red Socks, but again the rain. It seemed to rain a lot this summer, more than others according to locals. He did get to see the triple play and hang with new friends and be at Fenway. A core memory, I'm sure.
We ventured into Boston a third time and it was a nice day to explore. Third time is a charm. We took a Swan boat ride, one of the oldest attractions in the city and then headed over to the Hatch to watch a movie on the green. Can't beat a beautiful sunset and Back to the Future.
We ventured into Salem. I was so happy to do.this with Rach here. Salem, a city you learn about in school and in our case a historian father, oh and Disney. It was intriguing and fascinating all at the same time. The boys enjoyed it also and learned a lot in just a short time.
We ventured to Cape Cod to celebrate a birthday milestone. We found a beautiful beach although it was a bit to rocky for our liking, but the highlight being seal spotting. Us the goofy southerners enthralled with the seal who pokes his head out every 5 minutes or so.
We ate more ice cream than imaginable. I'm not a huge ice cream person, but the Newton Boys are..all of them. It was fun to go do this with Isaac's parents while they were here.
The campground is nice. We swam all summer, played basketball, participated in cookouts and water hayrides. We made friends and sat around and watched the campground fill up and be virtually empty with in a shirt 3 day period. Life moves at a slower pace while on the campground.
We decided to end our time on a high note sense we had a crazy summer and head over to our neighboring state New York and take the boys for a night. Big Isaac had never been and for 24 hours we would explore the big city. We hit Broadway and saw Aladdin and then made our way around to the stage door and met the actor for Alladin and Jasmine and then watched them fade away into the hustle and bustle of New York. We walked up and down Times Square and watched Big Isaac and Eli take part in a street show. We found a yummy desert spot and went to the Stardust to watch all the future Broadway stars sing and bring fries at the same time. We went saw Lady Liberty and Ellis Island. So much more we wanted to do, but according to the boys riding the subway was a hit cause it's in all the movies.
Finally we took a day to enjoy the fair while learning about the New England States. We learned New Hampshire is known for blueberrys, Maine has Moose, Vermont is maple and ice cream, Rhode Island has clams, Connecticut has apples and cigars, and Massachusetts well we've learned a lot.
We cant wait to explore New Hampshire although the snow has all excited, nervous, and feeling under prepared- although not all in that order.
