One day more...
The last part of the lyrics to the Broadway classic Les Miserable's One Day More goes:
Tomorrow we'll discoverWhat our God in Heaven has in storeOne more dawnOne more dayOne day more
And it is true. One day more. One more day. Life this past month has been crazy and I feel like we are finally seeing the light get brighter at the end of the tunnel. Shall I catch you up:
While 4 out of 5 of us Newtons were back in Georgia living through a tornando, Sir Isaac got to enjoy his birthday gift: watching the Braves take on the Red Sox at Fenway Park on the night the Braves made a triple play. He went with a new campground friend and his recruiter. I've been trying to.get him to blog about it just because at the end of this journey I want to print these and put them in a scrap book. But here is what he says about the experience "It was fun taking the train in. We sat through an hour rain delay. I got to see a triple play amd while we had to leave early it was a fun time. It was great hanging with Matt and Tristan. Fenway was a neat, older park, but very crowded. It was a great experience."
Isaac's mom and dad kindly came back up to Mass with us and stayed for a few days. They helped us out greatly during the whole process and we were sad to see them leave.
Also while we were down in Georgia, supposed to be signing on a house, Isaac went and put a down payment on a truck. It's a good thing since the my pilot died. Have we actually received the truck? Hahaha. That would be too easy.
Massachusetts doesn't do temporary tags. So they said we would have to apply for a GA tag and once it came in we would get the truck. Well Georgia apparently doesn't understand what is happening and making life hard, Isaac asked if we could just register it in Massachusetts? Sure no big deal. We will send it off and ypu should get it soon. Nope. Apparently, now we find out that Massachusetts won't take Georgia auto insurance. So now before we can drive it we have to get Massachusetts insurance. So here we are waiting. Hopefully next week.
Oh the house?  Well I was down in Georgia a month ago to sign. I couldn't because the sellers were missing an IRS tax document. A month later and they get the tax document but then something happens to their loan. So they have to go through a new lender. FINALLY, yesterday a full month and some days later after the first sign Isaac's mom became our Power of Attorney and signed! And as much as I love that house at some point you just have to say goodbye. BYE BYE BYE!
This weekend has been great fun! My sister, Rachel, flew up and we decided we were heading into Salem. We were there for the full day today. I wanted the boys to understand the importance of Salem more than Hocus Pocus. That is a big part, but what is bigger? So we started learning about the Salem Witch Trial a couple days before we went.  the people of Salem say the months of September through October are a fifth season. The boys did great for a whole day of walking from one end of Essex street to the other all day and they had their first Uber experience, which according to Little I was one of his highlights.
We saw the Bewitched statue, ubered to Pioneer Village in hopes to see some of where Hocus Pocus was filmed, but it was closed. We did eventually see where they filmed Allison's house from the movie. Next to Pioneer Village was a pretty marina we were able to take in the view while we waited for the Uber to return us back to Essex street. We went to the Witch and Dungon museum which was a replica dungeon built to showcase the history of the Trials. They also.put on a live reenactment of a trial which the boys thought was neat and told some interesting but true facts. I asked Eli what facts stood out to him and he said " well the saddest one was the kid who said their mom was a witch." Facts. I mean can you imagine being so scared about you being called a Witch that you called your own mother one and then watched her hang at 7 years old. The hysterics around that time. It only lasted 15 months, hysterics.
We checked out the Salem Witch Museum and learned how Witches have lived throughout history and how they have changed in how they are perceived. Interesting fact: the Wizard of Oz movie forever changed how people percieved witches, that they were no longer little old women  who would eat kids as presented in fairy tales such as Hansel and Gretal but to people who flew on brooms, had pointy hats. and were green. The museum also discussed more about the actual trials that went on during that time.
We checked out Charter Street Cemetery and found Judge John Hathorne's grave.  He was the judge during this time period. He is related to Nathaniel Hawthorne, who later put the W in his last name to separate himself a bit. Next to the Cemetery was the Salem Memorial. It was cement benches each one dedicated to those who died and were accused. The Salem Witch trials are something that still happens today. Fear triggers something and then there is a target. The museum gave examples and when you think about it, I'm sure you can think of some examples of select groups.of people who are targeted. It was a fun day and I'm glad Rachel could.come up to experience it all with us.
We will find out more about where Isaac works next soon...will it be desert or snow?!?!
