Headed Home!
We took an early morning hike on the North Rim this morning. The North Rim is less popular, but so nice. The views are just as incredible and it has a small western feel. And I do love my westerns.
After the hike, we said our good byes to our group so we could get an early start headed back to Atlanta.
The trail took us back through the Navajo Nation and on into the Hopi Reservation. The Navajo Nation was fairly built up. The Hopi not so much. Very low SES group. The boys were, I think, in shock to see how different it was then home. Small homes, outhouses, broken windows. We passed a number of signs asking people to Stay Sober and not Drink and Drive. Reservations are known to have high substance abuse rates, and this puts it all in perspective. The boys took a minute to let it sink in and to be grateful for what we have. It's a hard concept for a 7 and 10 year old. Maybe this helped. 🤷♀️
The landscape was beautiful of course. I couldn't imagine having a giant boulder in my back yard.
