Bright Angel Trail
Today was our first day out and about at the Grand Canyon. We met up with our group around 10 a.m. here, so 1 p.m. back home. We are still mentally operating on eastern time so we are awake at 5 and the boys are completly done by 6:30 pm.
The first part we walked on was a Time Travel walk discussing how the Canyon was once covered by ocean and there are still fossilized rocks. We saw the fault line in the canyon. We found a lot of fun fossils and the boys enjoyed looking and digging in the rocks.
From there we started down the Bright Angel Trail towards the inside of the canyon. It was so pretty and breathtaking.
I am amazed by it all. The boys were too. We saw mules coming up the Canyon, that was fun, and exciting.
Isaac and little Isaac went down and did a total of a mile and a half. Sir Isaac said he past a ranger who explained that at this time of a day he wouldn't advise going past 3 miles. Time of day: it was 12 :00. which is crazy to think if you go past 3 miles at 12:00, that you might not get back up before dark.
They saw some wild horned sheep, and those pesky squirrels along the trail. They said it was a great hike and enjoyed ice cream once they made it back.
I brought the other two back up after 1/2 mile down, making our a hike 1 mile. Eli amd Emory did so well. There was very little complaining and our motivation was ice cream once we hit the top.
We sat enjoyed our ice cream and then headed back to the shuttle to head back to the campsite. There was another program planned at 3 to see the history of the different layers of rock. It sounded to interesting to me, but to a 4 year old who has been up since 5, a nap sounded better. So that's what he did..
Supper tonight was hamburgers and hot dogs with Mac and cheese
